The Narrow Gate and The Stone Clock is the new album by Sone Institute, the artist moniker for UK based electronic musician, guitarist and producer Roman Bezdyk. The Narrow Gate and The Stone Clock is out via Roman's own Mystery Bridge label and it follows his previous album After The Glitter Before The Decay (September 2021).

The Narrow Gate and The Stone Clock is a psychedelic journey through altered states of consciousness, inspired by Roman's experiences of meditation and shamanic rituals. The album title combines a reference to the sound of the clock at the church where Roman meditated for many years, and the narrow gate is a spiritual reference which alludes to not always choosing the easiest or most obvious path in life.

The tracks for The Narrow Gate and The Stone Clock came about initially through a series of live improvisations incorporating field recordings, vinyl, a turntable, mono synth, microphones and a radio all fed through various FX. Along with a drone guitar which was also treated and altered. These recordings were then edited and reformed allowing the shape of the music to emerge out of the ether. Elements and sounds from one track often reoccur in other tracks and sections. Themes develop, collide, fall apart, and reconstruct like waves colliding. This working process is referenced in the track title Chaos in Creation and other track titles also gesture at these underlying spiritual and psychedelic themes as well as a sense of fun and play, with Roman referencing familiar phrases and finding the unfamiliar in them. This masterful ability to channel the transcendent through the mundane marks Roman out as one of the UK's true sonic and musical innovators.

Throughout his impressive career of releases, including a range with Manchester label Front and Follow, Sone Institute has long been championed by the likes of Gideon Coe and Stuart Maconie on BBC 6 Music, Radio 3’s Late Junction and his albums have received praise from The Wire, The Quietus and Electronic Sound. Sone Institute has performed live rarely, with exclusive performances having taken place at the Union Chapel, Tate Britain and at Green Man Festival.
